So, it's not so much of an "About Us" as it is an "About Me". My name is Michael Richey and I was bored when I created this site. The initial concept and launch was 4 months in the making (it was a powerful boredom). Astrology has always interested me - not so much that it consumes my life, or that I blindly follow the predictions - but enough that I thought I could build an interesting tool that would attract users. I never intended to charge for usage, so that was never built into the site. I had other ideas for making it useful.

The Strange House was created as an experiment in SEO, and to snub other astrology sites that charge outrageous prices for crappy charts. All of my crappy charts are free! The astrology topic was chosen as one with no clear web or academic "authority" and no established community site. Using modern CMS applications with custom plugins and security modifications, this site was constructed to generate SEF pages for each community member. Google has reacted in some very strange ways to this site, and I'm certain that I've caused them to revise their algorithm on more than one occasion.

Each application is tied into the same user database, calculating star positions and astrological explanations on-the-fly. Users are given a basic natal profile (generated and cached) as well as 138 years of daily horoscopes (1900-2038, due to UNIX 32 bit date bug.) In the next version of The Strange House, this functionality will be rewritten to take advantage of new PHP date functions which remove this limitation. Also, for celebrities who have died, horoscope and calendar functions will show only the dates in which the person was alive...except, maybe John Wayne...because The Duke still lives on in our hearts.

Back to the site - users are encouraged to sign up, and are offered the opportunity to make their information and horoscopes public. Each user made public on the system generates roughly 50,389 unique pages of content. The current public profile page count is roughly 48,877,330 active and public pages.

Celebrity and political figure profiles account for roughly 23,934,775 pages of content.

Users who have chosen to keep their profiles private are responsible for roughly 107,882,849 restricted access pages.
